For detail CPU specification, please refer. * *To reach the maximum 64GB of system memory, memory modules with 16GB capacity or above are required. ASRock will update the memory support list on the official website once these memory modules are available on the market. * * *Due to the operating system limitation, the actual memory size may be less than 4GB for the reservation for system usage under Windows ® 32-bit OS.
For Windows ® 64-bit OS with 64-bit CPU, there is no such limitation.
Computers rely heavily on random access memory, or RAM, to carry out the tasks given by you, the user. Whether you are trying to speed your computer up without spending money on upgrades or simply want to increase your computer's speed and performance, you should see if your computer has dual channel RAM and if so, you should ensure that you have enabled the dual channel functionality.
This way, you need to install the memory modules in sockets with the same color. See Figure 5. Figure 5: Install modules in sockets with the same color. In Figure 6, you can see a motherboard for an Intel CPU with two memory modules correctly installed, enabling dual-channel architecture.
Dual channel RAM is compatible with pretty much all motherboards, so it is definitely worth spending a couple of minutes to enable your RAM's dual channel functionality if you have not already done so. What is Dual Channel Mode Dual channel mode, also referred to as interleaved mode, improves the speed of your computer for most applications and provides a higher memory throughput than you can achieve with single channel mode. Using a with a dual channel platform allows your computer to eliminate bottlenecks by sending commands to two separate memory sticks working in tandem.
Only,, DDR3, and newer memory models support dual channel functionality, so if you still have some older RAM in your computer you probably cannot take advantage of this speed boosting option. Confirm Compatibility In addition to ensuring that your computer has the right type of memory, you must also confirm that your computer's motherboard supports dual channel mode; otherwise, you cannot enable it.
To make this determination, you can consult any documentation that came with your motherboard, or you can visit the motherboard manufacturer's website and look up the specifications of your specific model. Make Sure You Have Matched Memory In order to use dual channel mode for your memory you need to confirm you have matched memory. This means that you need to have at least two RAM sticks that are identical in size and DIMM configuration. Although some websites may tell you that they also need to be the same brand, this is not true. You can use dual mode by installing a Kingston 4GB stick with a stick as long as the two sticks feature the same DIMM configuration; however, you cannot install a Kingston 2GB RAM stick along with a stick and take advantage of dual channel functionality. You also cannot take advantage of dual channel functionality if you have only one stick of RAM, so you need to either purchase a second stick of matched RAM or purchase two sticks of smaller RAM to replace your single stick.
It is important to note that while using dual channel does speed up most applications, it is not effective for computer gaming, so if you are a gamer, you may not want to waste your money purchasing matched sets of RAM. Ensure Proper Installation Once you have confirmed that your motherboard supports dual channel functionality and that you have matched pairs of RAM, the final consideration is to ensure that you have installed your RAM properly. Since most motherboards have four slots for memory, many people install their two RAM sticks into the first and second slots.
This, however, is not the correct way to install RAM if you wish to use dual channel functionality. Each matched pair of RAM must be in alternating spots, which means the RAM stick that matches with the stick in slot one installs in slot three.
If you have four sticks, you will install the second matched pair in slots two and four. Confirm Dual Channel Functionality By installing your matched pairs of RAM in the proper slots, you have enabled dual channel functionality. The final step in this process is to confirm that this is true. This step requires you to restart you computer and watch the screen carefully as the Power on Self Test runs.
As this test runs, you should see the results on your screen. If the term 'Dual Channel Interleaved' appears during this test, you have successfully enabled dual channel functionality.
If the test returns the phrase 'Memory Runs on Single Channel,' you may not have matched memory or your motherboard may not support this feature. How to Buy RAM on eBay You can find a wide range of RAM sticks available on, so check out the selection on the site before making a purchasing decision.
You can browse through the listings on the computer components section of the site or use the search bar to find the specific type of memory you need. You can also use the filter options on the site to refine your results. While enabling dual channel cannot increase the speed of your computer drastically, it is an easy and cheap way to gain some additional power, especially if you already have a matched pair of RAM installed. Enable dual channel functionality today and check out the difference it can make.
